Articulation is the pronunciation of speech sounds. Students that have needs with articulation are a significant part of a speech/language pathologist's caseload. It is typically a lot of work (+/- 2 meetings a week & practice at home) and time (a few school years) to master most speech sound errors and distortions. Progress is often dependent on age, gender, motivation, specific sound error(s), and practice regularity. Although it often takes a great amount of practice and patience to improve a child's speech clarity, it is extremely rewarding and critically important. See below for a sound development chart.
